Capture and explain a screenshot on Windows
Show the exact button, message or detail someone needs to see.
Choose the part that matters
A screenshot is easier to understand when it contains the relevant window or region. Open CopySnip, then press Print Screen and drag around the area you want to capture. Avoid including unrelated windows, account details or notifications.
Choose Copy or press Enter to save a straightforward capture to clipboard history. Choose Edit when the image needs an explanation. If the shortcut is already used by another capture tool, check CopySnip’s shortcut settings.
Add one clear explanation
- Use an arrow or a rectangle to identify the important control. Keep the underlying label readable.
- Add a short text label or highlight if the next action is unclear.
- Crop unnecessary space and apply redaction to details you do not intend to share.
The editor also includes pen, circle, undo and redo tools. All these functions are free. Use a small number of annotations so the screenshot still shows what happened.
Review the file you will share
Save the result as PNG, or use Copy & close to return the annotated image to your clipboard. Inspect the final image before sending it.
Check names, email addresses, open tabs and identifying details as well as obvious passwords. Editing one screenshot does not remove sensitive information from a separate original, a previous export or another app’s clipboard history.
If you are explaining several steps rather than a single screen, Stepfolio can arrange screenshots and instructions into an editable guide.
