Find large files and folders before cleaning a Windows drive

Before deleting anything, find out where the space is going.

Start with a drive or folder

Choose a location you want to understand. Disklane reads file metadata and presents folder sizes and file types so you can follow the space rather than guess.

You can explore the interface with unlimited sample scans. The free allowance includes two completed real scans in total; canceled, failed, unreadable or capped scans do not consume it. Existing results remain viewable.

Look for files you recognize

  1. Run a scan of your chosen location, then inspect the largest folders.
  2. Search, sort and filter by file type or size. A large file is not necessarily an unnecessary file.
  3. Review individual files. Mark important items with Keep safe and leave unfamiliar system or application files alone.

The screenshot on this page uses sample files and earlier app artwork. Your results depend on the location and files you select.

Review a cleanup before confirming it

Disklane requests the Windows Recycle Bin for eligible individual files. It does not empty the bin or offer recursive folder deletion. The free plan allows up to ten files per eligible recycle batch.

Sending files to the Recycle Bin does not necessarily free space immediately. Check what you are removing and keep any backup you need before completing a separate Windows cleanup.

Disklane Pro is a one-time Microsoft Store upgrade for unlimited real scans, saved scans, folder-size comparisons, CSV export, larger reviewed cleanup batches and exact duplicate checks. Duplicate cleanup retains a copy and still requires review.
